The beginning of the institutional voyage

The official history, origin and introduction of the Grand Lodge of the Order of the Captain Experience.

Introduction

Who we are and why we exist

The Grand Lodge of the Order of the Captain Experience (O.C.E. Grand Lodge) is a Nigerian social and fraternal organisation established to bring responsible men and women together through brotherhood, sisterhood, leadership, networking, personal development, entrepreneurship, mutual support, charity, service and the pursuit of legitimate success and prosperity.

O.C.E. is built around the philosophy that life is a voyage. Every individual travels through different seasons of opportunity, difficulty, achievement and personal discovery. A successful voyage requires direction, discipline, courage, knowledge, dependable companions and responsible leadership.

O.C.E. therefore seeks to create a structured community where members do not simply meet socially but also connect, learn, develop, create opportunities, build legitimate wealth, exercise responsible influence and contribute positively to society.

Origin

From the sea to the Order

The O.C.E. Grand Lodge originated in Nigeria in 2026 from the vision of its Founder, Capt. D. O. Ebong. The Founder is a mariner, and his connection with the maritime world played an important role in shaping the identity, language, philosophy and traditions of the Order.

The sea teaches important lessons about leadership and life. There are calm waters and rough waters. There are moments when the destination appears clear and moments when navigation becomes difficult. Regardless of the condition of the sea, a vessel requires leadership, direction, discipline, teamwork and a dependable crew.

From these principles emerged the philosophy of the Captain Experience: a distinctive community in which people from different professions, businesses and backgrounds travel together symbolically on one voyage — supporting one another while developing socially, professionally, financially and personally.

Meaning

The Captain Experience

The Captain — Leadership

The Captain represents leadership, responsibility, courage, discipline and direction. A Captain does not merely possess authority; a Captain carries responsibility for the vessel, the direction of the voyage and the welfare of those travelling together.

The Experience — The Journey

Experience represents the lessons acquired throughout the voyage of life. Success, failure, relationships, business, leadership, challenges, opportunities and personal development all contribute to experience.

“Every life is a voyage, every experience is a lesson, and responsible leadership provides direction.”

Institution

Why “Grand Lodge”?

Within O.C.E., the Grand Lodge represents the central institution responsible for preserving and administering the identity, standards, traditions, governance and development of the Order.

  • Identity
  • Constitution
  • Leadership structure
  • Membership system
  • Maritime traditions
  • Symbols and insignia
  • Ceremonial practices
  • Code of Conduct
  • Programmes and activities
  • Administrative structure

Although lodge terminology has historically been used by different fraternal and social organisations, O.C.E. maintains an independent institutional identity. The Order does not claim historical descent, authority or recognition from Freemasonry or any other existing fraternity merely because it uses lodge terminology.

2026

Founding declaration

The establishment of the Grand Lodge of the Order of the Captain Experience in Nigeria in 2026 represents the beginning of the institutional voyage of O.C.E.

Future generations of members are expected to preserve its founding principles while allowing the Order to grow through responsible leadership, fellowship, legitimate enterprise, service and documented traditions.

Its history will ultimately be determined not merely by its ceremonies or titles but by the character, achievements and positive contributions of its members.

Every generation that joins the voyage becomes responsible for what O.C.E. will become.
